William Lawson built Veteran Hall at Prospect in 1810, enlarging it in 1821. When Prospect Reservoir was being constructed, the land was resumed by the Sydney Water Supply Authority and the house used by the Board’s engineer in chief of the works from 1888 to 1912. From 1912 to 1915 it was leased to Commonwealth military authorities as a remount depot. A 1925 decision to demolish the house was not enacted until 1929. Stone from the house was used in a wall at Vaucluse House and bricks were used in the construction of cottages in Granville. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
