History
The original Leets Vale Uniting Church was built in 1876 and its replacement in 1937.
Land for the church was given by Jonathan Leet who was born in Suffolk, England in 1828 and emigrated with his younger brother Robert to join their uncle Israel Leet who had settled at Webbs Creek. Leet was a boat owner who purchased the property ‘Bluett’s Bight’ portions 61, 81 and 88 Parish of Cornelia County of Cumberland. This area became known as Leets Vale. Leet gave the land for the first church to be built in 1876 constructed of timber slabs and a shingle roof. In 1937 this church was demolished and a new church was erected by voluntary labour supervised by Roy and Herbert Eldridge of Concord. The church was opened on 9 October 1937, Rev Arnold Towner presiding and Mrs Saul Douglass turning the key to declare the building open. Rev James Somerville conducted the service of dedication with Rev Joseph Walker preaching the sermon. The church contains an honour roll of those who fought in WWI and a memorial tablet to Jonathan Leet who also served as a local preacher for 47 years. (hawkesbury.org)
